How Much Does Home Battery Storage Cost in the UK? (2026 Price Guide)
See UK price bands by capacity, the cost per kWh figure that matters most, and how 0% VAT helps. We also compare the popular batteries, because the best one depends on your home.
What you are paying for
A home battery quote bundles three things. These are the battery itself, the electronics that charge and discharge it, and the installation. The electronics are a hybrid inverter, or an AC-coupling module if you add a battery to existing solar.
Compare like for like, because a battery-only price and a fully installed price can differ by a few thousand pounds. Capacity is quoted in kilowatt-hours (kWh) of usable storage. That is the headline number, yet two 10kWh batteries can behave very differently. Check the continuous power output (kW), the round-trip efficiency (how much energy you get back out) and the warranty as well.
Typical UK price bands by capacity (2026)
These are broad fully installed ranges seen across the UK market in 2026, so treat them as a planning guide. Adding a battery to an existing solar array (known as AC-coupled) tends to sit at the top of each range, because it needs its own electronics. Fitting a battery at the same time as a hybrid inverter is usually cheaper per kWh.
- Around 5kWh: roughly £2,500 to £4,000 installed. It suits smaller homes or topping up daytime solar use.
- Around 10kWh: roughly £4,500 to £7,000. This is the popular whole-home size for a typical family.
- 13.5kWh (Powerwall class): roughly £7,000 to £9,500 as an all-in-one AC battery.
- 15kWh and above: roughly £8,000 to £12,000, often as stacked modular units.
Cost per kWh: the number that matters
Divide the installed price by the usable capacity to get the cost per kWh. It is the fairest way to compare quotes. In 2026 most UK home storage lands around £500 to £800 per usable kWh installed. The figure usually falls as capacity rises, because the fixed installation cost spreads over more storage.
If a quote sits well above that band, ask what is driving it. It could be a premium all-in-one unit, a hard install or high margin. If it sits well below, check the warranty, the usable versus nominal capacity, and whether installation is included.
How the popular options compare
The Tesla Powerwall is a large all-in-one AC battery. It is simple to retrofit and strong on software, although you buy in one big step of capacity. GivEnergy is built in the UK and is modular, so you can size capacity closely and add more later. FoxESS is a keenly priced stackable option, and it has become a common choice on new hybrid installs.
No single battery is the best for everyone. The right pick depends on whether you are retrofitting or installing fresh. It also depends on how much power you use in the evening, and on whether you value room to expand over one tidy box.
0% VAT and what drives your payback
Battery storage in Great Britain currently carries 0% VAT. The relief runs until 31 March 2027. Since February 2024 it has applied to standalone batteries as well as those fitted with solar. That takes a real chunk off the prices above.
Payback depends on how much stored energy you use in the evening peak, and on what you pay per unit. A time-of-use tariff often turns a long payback into a sensible one, because you charge cheaply overnight and avoid peak-rate grid imports. This helps most if you already have solar generating by day.
Plan the rest of your system
Use these bands to check quotes, not as a fixed price list. Then browse our battery storage range to compare real capacities and specs. If you have no solar yet, our solar panels and kits range and the solar panel kits buying guide show how to size an array.
The inverter matters too, since a hybrid model can run the battery and the panels together. Our solar inverter comparison explains the options, and the inverters category lists them by type. For the wiring, see cabling and connectors and our guide to MC4 connectors. If you buy in volume, ask about trade and bulk pricing.
Where to go next
Batteries work best as part of a full system, so look at solar panels and kits and a matching hybrid unit from our solar inverters range. Because cabling and fixings affect cost too, check cabling and connectors and mounting and fixings before you buy.
If you are still choosing, read how to size a solar panel kit, compare string, hybrid and micro inverters and learn about MC4 connectors. Installers and volume buyers can ask about trade and bulk pricing, while everyone can see the full battery storage range.
