Match the connector to the cable. Solar cable in 2.5mm², 4mm² and 6mm² sizes each needs the correct MC4 crimp barrel. Our MC4 guide covers sizing, crimping and how to spot genuine connectors.

What this category covers

MC4 connectors

Male/female pairs and branch connectors, genuine and compatible, IP67-rated.

Solar DC cable

Double-insulated 2.5, 4 and 6mm² cable rated for outdoor UV exposure.

Crimping tools

Ratchet crimpers and spanners for reliable, weatherproof MC4 terminations.

Fuses, isolators & protection

In-line DC fuses, DC isolators and surge protection for safe balance-of-system wiring.

How to choose cabling & connectors

Choose the cable size before you buy connectors. Thicker cable loses less power over a long run, but it costs more and is harder to bend. Therefore, measure the run first, then pick 2.5mm², 4mm² or 6mm² to suit.

Next, make every joint with care. A poor crimp heats up under load, because the contact area is small. Use a proper ratchet crimper, and pull-test each finished joint before you plug it in.

Finally, protect the circuit. In-line fuses and a DC isolator let you switch off and work on the array safely. Moreover, never mix connector brands in one joint, since they can make poor contact and run hot.

Our guide to MC4 connectors goes deeper on sizing and crimping. Since cables link every part of a system, the solar panel kits buying guide and the solar inverter comparison show where they connect. Once you know the layout, browse solar panels and kits and mounting and fixings.

Cabling & Connectors — common questions

Which MC4 connector fits my cable?

Match the connector to the cable cross-section, which is 2.5mm², 4mm² or 6mm². Each size needs the correct internal crimp barrel. Our MC4 guide explains sizing and crimping.

Can I mix MC4 connectors from different brands?

No, never mate two different connector brands in the same joint. They may look compatible, yet they can make poor contact. This is a common cause of hot joints, so keep each connection brand-consistent.
