Solar panels & complete PV kits

Whether you are wiring a whole-house array, a garden office or a campervan, a matched solar panel kit takes the guesswork out of sizing. Every kit pairs the panels with a compatible inverter, mounting and cabling, so the parts work together.

How to choose solar panels & kits

Start with your daytime usage and your roof space. A roof with a clear south, east or west face gives the best return, while heavy shade cuts output sharply. Therefore, check for chimneys, trees and nearby buildings before you pick a kit size.

Next, compare the panel wattage with the inverter rating. A kit works best when the two are close in size, because a very small inverter wastes power on bright days. For example, a larger array needs an inverter of a matching size.

Finally, think about growth. If you may add a battery later, choose a battery-ready kit now. Likewise, check that the mounting suits your roof covering, since tiles and slate need different fixings.

Read our solar panel kits buying guide for a step-by-step sizing method. Furthermore, our solar inverter comparison shows how to pair a kit with the right inverter, and our home battery storage cost guide covers adding storage later. Solar Panels & Kits — common questions

What size solar panel kit do I need?

It depends on your roof space and daytime usage. As a rough guide, 1kWp needs about 5–6m² of roof, and a typical UK home installs around 3.5–6kWp. Our kits buying guide walks through sizing in detail.

Can I use a campervan solar kit on a shed or boat?

Yes, because 12V and 24V leisure kits suit any small off-grid load. That includes campervans, caravans, boats, sheds and garden offices. The key is to match the charge controller and battery to the panel wattage.
